Laser tattoo removal in Brickell — the Miami Ink Off program, now at Miami Skin Spa.

01 / 07 — OVERVIEW

What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

A medical-grade approach, explained without the jargon.

Laser tattoo removal is our most-requested removal service. Each session targets pigment with short, high-energy laser pulses that break the ink into particles small enough for your immune system to flush away. The tattoo fades gradually between sessions — most patients need 6–12 visits to fully clear a tattoo, depending on ink colors, age, location, and skin tone. Pricing is by size and complexity, billed per session, with packages of 4 sessions and full-removal bundles available. This service is operated as the Miami Ink Off program — billing on your card will appear as Miami Ink Off — and is performed at our Brickell location by our laser team.

Laser Tattoo Removal in Brickell — Formerly Miami Ink Off

Laser tattoo removal at Miami Skin Spa is the same program patients have known as Miami Ink Off, now consolidated under the Miami Skin Spa roof in Brickell. Same room, same equipment, same laser team — and the same pricing structure that built Miami Ink Off's reputation. Billing still appears as Miami Ink Off so existing patients can reconcile their statements, but everything else — booking, consults, treatment — happens at Miami Skin Spa.

We treat tattoos of every size, color, location, and age. Whether you want a small wrist piece gone before your wedding, a sleeve lightened for a cover-up, or permanent makeup eyebrows removed because they migrated or no longer match your face, the program is built around a single principle: removal is gradual, and the right plan is the plan that matches your tattoo and your skin.

How Laser Tattoo Removal Actually Works

Tattoo ink sits in the deeper layers of the dermis — too deep for your body to clear on its own. The laser delivers ultra-short pulses of light that are absorbed by the ink and converted into a photoacoustic shockwave that shatters the pigment into microscopic particles. Your immune system then carries those particles away over the weeks following treatment, which is why the tattoo continues to fade between visits.

We use a combination of Q-switched and picosecond lasers — including the Cutera Enlighten 3 — depending on what your tattoo needs. Picosecond pulses are extremely short, which means more of the laser's energy goes into shattering ink and less into heat. That matters because heat is what causes burning and scarring on older nanosecond-only devices. The Enlighten 3 platform also gives us multiple wavelengths (532 nm, 1064 nm, and 670 nm), so we can target the full color spectrum of tattoo inks — including the bright greens, teals, and yellows that older lasers cannot touch.

What to Expect at Your Consultation

Every removal plan starts with a free, no-commitment consultation. The visit takes 20–30 minutes and covers:

  • A visual assessment of the tattoo — colors, depth, age, location, prior removal attempts
  • A photograph for our records (with your consent)
  • A written treatment plan with estimated session count
  • Pricing — per session, 4-session package, and complete-removal package
  • A medical history review to confirm you are a candidate
  • Aftercare expectations and what your skin will look like at each phase

You leave with a printed plan and a quote. No treatment happens at the consult. If the plan works for you, we book your first session — usually within 1–2 weeks.

What Determines How Many Sessions You Need

The number of sessions varies more than most patients expect. The biggest factors:

Factor
Fewer Sessions
More Sessions
Ink colors
Black, dark blue, dark brown
Green, teal, yellow, white, light blue
Tattoo age
Older (>10 years)
Newer (<2 years)
Tattoo location
Closer to the heart (chest, upper back, upper arms)
Extremities (hands, feet, ankles, wrists)
Prior treatments
None
Previous failed removal attempts
Skin tone
Lighter
Darker (requires conservative settings — slower clearing, but safer)
Ink density / layering
Single-layer line work
Heavy fill, shaded work, layered cover-ups

Typical range: 6–12 sessions for most tattoos, spaced 6–8 weeks apart. Small, older, black-ink tattoos sometimes clear in 4–5 sessions; large multi-color pieces can take 12 or more.

Ink Colors — What Clears Easily, What Doesn't

  • Easiest to remove: Black, dark navy, dark brown
  • Moderate difficulty: Red, orange, dark green
  • Most difficult: Bright green, teal, yellow, white, light blue

Yellow and white pigments do not absorb the laser wavelengths as efficiently. They can be significantly lightened but may not fully disappear. We will tell you up front during the consult if any colors in your tattoo are likely to be stubborn.

Pricing — Per Session, 4-Session, and Complete Removal

Pricing is by tattoo size, with three tiers: per single session, 4-session package, and a complete-removal bundle. Anesthesia for sensitive areas is a small add-on per visit. The full table is on the pricing page. The summary:

  • Small to large tattoos (anything from a credit-card sized piece to a half-sleeve): packages start at $750 for 4 sessions on the smallest tattoos.
  • Complete-removal bundles save 10% off pay-per-session pricing.
  • 24-month financing is available through Cherry and Affirm — most patients qualify for low monthly payments.
  • Permanent makeup removal (eyebrows, eyeliner, lip liner) is priced separately and usually requires fewer sessions than body tattoos.

Pricing is case-by-case — the table is a baseline, not a quote. Your consult gives you the final number.

Aftercare — What to Do Between Sessions

Aftercare is straightforward but matters. The treated area is essentially a superficial burn for the first 24–72 hours, and how you care for it directly affects the final result.

  • Keep the area clean and dry for the first 24 hours
  • Apply the ointment we provide (usually a thin layer of Vaseline or Aquaphor)
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks; use SPF 30+ if any sun is unavoidable
  • Do not pick at scabs or blisters — they heal naturally
  • Avoid hot tubs, pools, saunas, and prolonged baths until the skin is fully healed
  • No tanning or self-tanner on the treated area during the entire course of treatment

If you notice severe blistering, signs of infection (warmth, pus, fever), or unusual pain, contact us immediately.

Who Is and Isn't a Candidate

We treat adults in good general health with realistic expectations about gradual fading. We cannot treat patients who:

  • Are pregnant or nursing
  • Have active infections or open wounds in the treatment area
  • Are taking certain photosensitizing medications
  • Have had recent sunburn or tanning at the treatment site

Patients with a history of keloid scarring are evaluated case-by-case. If you have a skin condition at or near the tattoo, we may ask for clearance from a dermatologist before starting.

Cover-Ups and Tattoo Lightening

You do not need to commit to full removal. Many clients lighten a tattoo over 3–5 sessions specifically to make room for a cover-up by their tattoo artist. Tell us your goal at the consult and we will plan a shorter course targeted at lightening rather than clearing. Once the area is fully healed (at least 6–8 weeks after the last session), it is ready for a new tattoo.

Permanent Makeup, Microblading, and Cosmetic Tattoos

We remove eyebrow tattoos, microblading, permanent eyeliner, lip liner, and other small cosmetic tattoos. The Enlighten 3's precision lets us partially or fully clear these without damaging the surrounding skin. Because permanent makeup is usually a small area with a single ink, complete removal can sometimes be done in 1–3 sessions of 15–20 minutes each.

Pairs Well With

Once a tattoo is fully cleared, the skin underneath sometimes shows lingering pigment unevenness or texture changes. Common pairings to refine the area after removal:

  • Pico Genesis: picosecond-based pigmentation correction to even out tone post-removal.
  • Morpheus8: for texture and scarring that may have existed under or around the old tattoo.
  • Chemical Peels: for surface tone refinement once active removal is complete.

02 / 07 — HOW IT WORKS

The process.

What actually happens during your appointment.

During the procedure the laser is gently applied to the tattoo while you wear protective eyewear. Most people describe the sensation as a rubber band snapping against the skin — uncomfortable but tolerable, and we offer topical numbing for sensitive areas. The laser delivers picosecond and nanosecond pulses that shatter ink particles at multiple depths. Sessions last 15–45 minutes depending on tattoo size. Redness and mild swelling for 24–72 hours is normal. The tattoo will appear darker or frosted right after treatment, then fade over the following 6–8 weeks as your body clears the broken-down ink. You return for the next session once the area is fully healed.

05 / 07 — WHAT TO EXPECT

After your visit.

Recovery, results, and timelines — straight.

Plan on 6–12 sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart for full removal. Older black-ink tattoos closer to the heart respond fastest; newer tattoos, bright colors (green, yellow, light blue), and ink on hands or feet take more sessions. Keep the area clean and dry for 24 hours after each visit, apply the ointment we provide, avoid sun exposure, and do not pick at any blistering — it heals naturally. Plan ahead for travel, sun, or pool exposure; treated skin should not be tanned for 2 weeks before or after each session. A free consultation gives you a written plan, session count estimate, and pricing before you commit.

07 / 07 — FREQUENTLY ASKED

Honest answers.

The questions patients ask most before booking.

Most patients compare it to a rubber band snapping against the skin. It is generally less painful than getting the tattoo itself. We offer topical numbing cream for sensitive areas.

Pricing depends on tattoo size, ink density, and number of sessions needed. We charge per session, by size, and offer 4-session and complete-removal packages. A free consultation gives you an accurate estimate after we assess your tattoo in person.

You will notice fading after 6–8 weeks as your immune system clears the broken-down ink. Full results are cumulative across multiple sessions. Complete removal can take 12–18 months or longer depending on tattoo complexity.

Typically 6–12 sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart. Older tattoos with darker ink usually need fewer sessions; newer tattoos with bright colors usually need more. Your consultation gives you a specific estimate.

Most tattoos can be significantly faded or fully removed. Factors like ink type, color, depth, and skin tone affect the final result. Black ink on lighter skin responds best. Some colors (yellow, white) are very resistant and may not disappear fully but can be dramatically reduced.

Yes, when performed by trained laser technicians. Our staff are certified in laser safety. Side effects are typically mild: temporary redness, swelling, blistering, or scabbing. Permanent scarring is rare when aftercare is followed.

We can target a specific number of sessions to lighten the tattoo for a cover-up. Tell us your goal at the consult and we will build the plan around it.

Yes. Many clients lighten an old tattoo to make room for a cover-up. We recommend waiting at least 6–8 weeks after the final session before tattooing the area.

Avoid sun exposure and tanning for 2 weeks before. Keep the area moisturized but clean on the day of treatment. Shave the area if there is hair (we can do this for you). Do not apply numbing cream unless we prescribed it.

Yes. Consultations are free and take 20–30 minutes. We photograph the tattoo, discuss your goals, estimate the session count, and quote pricing. No commitment.

Almost any area. Common spots include arms, legs, back, chest, neck, and hands. Delicate areas like the face, fingers, and feet can be treated but may need adjusted settings and more sessions.

Tattoo removal is operated as Miami Ink Off, our dedicated tattoo-removal program. Treatment is performed at Miami Skin Spa in Brickell — same location, same team — but the service has its own billing entity.

We cannot treat patients who are pregnant or nursing, have active infections or open wounds in the treatment area, are on certain photosensitizing medications, or have recently tanned the area. Patients with a history of keloid scarring are evaluated case-by-case.
